Colourful jungle Na Zderaze
Recording from the opening speech of the exhibition of paintings "Ladislav Svoboda - Colorful Jungle" in the Art Brut Prague gallery Na Zderaze. Painting helps Ladislav Svoboda (1986) to overcome his difficulties in communicating with the world, and despite the fact he is suffering from Asperger's syndrome, he successfully completed his master's degree at university, writes science fiction stories and is active on social networks. Since 2013, he has been one of the regular authors of the Studio of Joyful Creation, and during the years he has been regularly participating in the program of Barvolam studio for neurodiverse artists. The exhibition was introduced by the curator Jaromír Typlt. The new Art Brut Gallery, which was founded in autumn 2022 by the former mayor of Prague 7, Mr. Vladimír Drábek, found its premises in an empty technical building without heating, on land belonging to the Church of St. Wenceslas in Zderaz, i.e. not far from the Via Art gallery.
The local name Zderaz originates from an ancient settlement, which is said to have been located on the Břežská skála, stretching from today's Karlovo náměstí towards the banks of the Vltava. The settlement, together with the surrounding old rural buildings, was demolished during the Prague clean-up around 1900. Today, only the name of Na Zderaze Street, leading from Myslíkova to Resslova Street, and the Gothic Church Na Zderaze, towering above the toxic traffic artery of Resslova Street, remain.
