The Church was dedicated to one of the patrons of the Baroque period: St. John of Nepomuk (svatý Jan Nepomucký). His name also refers to the fact that it is built on a rock on a place of a vineyards. Kilian Ignaz Dienzenhofer constructed it on this steep rocky terrain. The difference in height between the street and the church’s beautiful double staircase as well as the entire building was completed with the remarkable impression of a pair of forward leaning towers, built at an angle.
