While breaking off a polypore from a dry log, obviously hollow at the top, I inadvertently disturbed a poor sleeping owl, possibly a callus. Disgusted, she flew off to sit on a branch a little further away. Immediately, all the songbirds living somewhere around, including the magpie, flocked to her with angry screams. Probably because owls have such a bad reputation, especially when you are sitting on eggs, or we already have young ones in your nest.
