Since 1912 replaces the Hlávka Bridge the original wooden bridge, which was built mainly because of the Prague Main Slaughterhouse in Holešovice. The environment and the architecture create a special world with a labyrinth of dark subways and bridges leading across the main busy higway crossing. Under the bridge on the waterfront several homeless people found their shelter. On the river banks of Holešovice side are sticking two bizarre sculptures: The Work and The Humanity made by sculptor Jan Štursa. The mecenarius Josef Hlávka steadfastly observes the stream of Vltava river.
